Would You Get Tattooed Here?

WARNING. SOME PEOPLE MAY FIND THIS PICTURE OFFENSIVE.

This is a real piece of promotional material for a real German tattoo studio! The Things&Ink ladies picked this up on their recent travels to the Frankfurt Tattoo Convention.

Would you get tattooed here?

On seeing this for the first time I was horrified, I mean what the fuck is it?

This flyer is everything that tattooing is not. To an outsider who does not have any ink, or has never set foot in a tattoo shop this image would most definitely put them off, without a doubt!

The suggestion of rape, violence and sexual degradation are disgusting and shocking. The woman is in real pain, not merely from the tattoo, but from being held down and having her hair brutally pulled. Not to mention the unhygienic conditions, where is his other glove?

The tattooist is enjoying his predatory role, taking delight in her vulnerable position. Is this image supposed to be pornographically sexy? Are they trying to glamorise tattoos in some way by suggesting that tattooed women are promiscuous and punishable? I am speechless!

Tattoos are not a form of torture; they should not be performed on a non consenting individual. They are an expression of art, personality and free choice.

The star and Buddhist logo contradict the whole set up, I doubt very much that the woman is on a journey to enlightenment.

  1. Wow. This is awful for so many reasons.
I’m actually quite speechless. It’s a shocking image – and would be rather triggering for many people.
It’s so purposefully aggressive – do they really think this is a good image for the studio to have?
And besides it being a negative image for the studio – it in general, is a hideously violent depiction of the male artists exercising power and control over their ‘client’/victim. Using violence against women as an advertisement for your business – really?
It really doesn’t do anything for the stereotypical view of the tattoo artist – in the research I have done, so many women speak about feeling intimidated by male artists – this does nothing to quash that view.
    Horrid.

  2. Wow, it’s obvious that the people involved in this read the handbook on “How to make sure you’re as *ssholish and needlessly offensive as possible in one single image”. Oh, and let me guess: it’s supposed to be a ~joke~? :-S It’s disgusting on pretty much all levels, that’s what it is.

  3. Seeing this and living in Germany the German tattoo scene disappoints me again. I recently saw a eroticism/pornography fair poster in a place close to Frankfurt which advertised with different stars of the scene and tattoos. But why tattoos? I just don’t get the connection.
Advertisement like this and the flyer above are partly the reasons for the mostly sexist and pejorative view on female tattoo culture.

  4. Oh get over yourselves!!! The ‘PC’ brigade are out again hey. How about you just lock yourselves away and wrap up in cotton wool so the big bad world can’t hurt your feelings! You are all just single minded idiots… Get a grip

  5. Absolutely love it… I would DEFINATELY check them out and if the work was good then why not ..

    It’s a cool picture

    1. Do you remember the story The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo? Remember what she does to her rapist? That should be done to the owners of this shop!
