Carey Fruth: Redefining ‘American Beauty’

Photographer Carey Fruth based in San Francisco has created a series of images titled ‘American Beauty’ featuring 14 women who are redefining the American idea of what beauty is. The images have been inspired by the 1999 film American Beauty and the rose petal fantasy scene in which Lester Burnham (Kevin Spacey) renders Angela Hayes (Mena Suvari) powerless with his male gaze.

The women pictured lie naked in a bed of lilacs and are of all shapes, sizes, ages and ethnicities. Unlike the film the women pictured are reclaiming their power and do not fit into the media-created body shape ideal, instead they are embracing their bodies just as they are.

Here’s to Life outside the Lines

Sailor Jerry has launched a new short film, ‘Here’s to Life outside the Lines’ – celebrating the spirit of rebellion through an unofficial lineage of road trips, choppers and wild times.

 

The film brings to life the philosophy of those who stand up for what they believe in and boldly live life on their own terms. It features a montage of new and archival footage of skaters, bikers, musicians and classic car enthusiasts, as well as original footage of the inspiration behind the brand, Norman ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins himself – the personification of an independent spirit who lived life his own way.

The actress from The Social Network is now to star in David Fincher’s film adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Rooney Mara in character as Salander—an androgynous, bisexual computer hacker with multiple piercings and a distinctive tattoo on her back— is too hot for words in this dirty, dark photo shoot. According to W magazine, to prepare for the role of the computer hacker Salander, Mara had her eyebrows bleached, her hair chopped, and her lip, brow, nose, and nipple pierced — all in one ‘intense’ day.
